Novels

The great novel is one of the most famous expressions of storytelling. A well-written novel can take you on a journey. Great characters become close friends. It can make you laugh, or cry. It can stoke and transform your imagination.

Novel writing is where my passion lies. I have several unpublished manuscripts in progress and here are some excerpts from them.

DENOUEMENT
The story of Albert Aldrich: writer, stoner, caretaker of his broken family, and part-time peeping tom. When Albert discovers a long-forgotten cache of his grandfather's journals, he embarks on a quest to tell his grandfather's story. He might create a better ending for them both.

Prologue- The Storm
A crabbing boat is in trouble in the midst of a  Bering Sea storm and the Captain grapples with his life and the state of his soul.

Part 1- Albert in Alaska
Albert Aldrich struggles to strike a balance with his life as a writer, caretaker of his family and full-time marijuana enthusiast.

THE SILENT STONES
Ten years after a horrible virus nearly wiped humanity from the face of the Earth, Paxton Raleigh struggles to cope with the weight of a lifeless world. But a strange appearance one morning drives him from the shelter of his family's remote ranch, and he discovers that the world might not be as empty as he once thought. Tortured by dreams and chased by strange creatures known as "marauders," Paxton is drawn into an increasingly complex adventure whose real danger might not be what he discovers outside, but from within.

Part 1- An Unexpected Visitor
Paxton has a surprise visitation that forces him to re-think everything he thought he knew about the post-plague world.

Part 2- Preparing for a Journey
Paxton gathers what he needs for a journey to the empty town of Glenwood Springs, a place he hasn't visited in years. But is it as vacant as he thought?

THE RAZED RUINS
It is 1,692 years since the mysterious "Great Death" nearly brought North American civilization to its knees. Humanity has now risen from the ashes. The Union of New America (a tenuous agreement between four semi-autonomous kingdoms) has reached its Tercentennial. With the expiration of the term limit of the wildly popular Supreme Chancellor at hand, the lords and ladies of the realm coalesce in the capital to vote for her successor. Many, however, fear that chaos may reign unlike any the realm has ever seen.

Prologue- The Letter
A messenger rides deep into the desolate North to deliver a letter from the Supreme Chancellor to a most terrifying destination.

Chapter 1- To the White City
Vallario Roberts and his family arrive in the White City to take part in the Five Years Fair, a massive festival whose ultimate conclusion will be the election of a new Supreme Chancellor.
